A recent TikTok filmed at Toronto Pearson asked a simple question: is paying about $59 for a two-hour lounge stay worth it? It got more than 240,000 views, so plenty of travellers are wondering the same thing. Here is the short answer, and what we would check first.
What you get
You do not need business class or a premium credit card. Pay-per-visit lounges at Pearson are open to travellers in any class, on any airline, with a same-day boarding pass. Inside, you can expect:
- Food. A buffet, often with a hot station such as pasta. Some lounges also have a menu you can order from for an extra charge.
- Drinks. Unlimited drinks, including alcohol at some lounges. Premium spirits cost extra.
- Quiet and power. Seating away from the gate crowds and plenty of outlets to charge your phone and laptop. It is not always silent: the traveller in the video called hers the loudest lounge she had ever been in.
- Showers. Some lounges have them, which is handy after a long flight in or before a long flight out. They may cost extra and may need a reservation.
What it costs
Passes start from about $25 and go up to about $73, depending on the lounge, the time of day and how long you stay. The traveller in the video paid about $59 for two hours, which sits inside that range. Longer stays cost more, and taxes and extras such as showers or premium drinks may be added. Booking online ahead can guarantee you a space, because walk-ins are only taken when there is room.
Prices change, so check the lounge's own page for the time you plan to go (prices in Canadian dollars):
- Terminal 3, international departures
- Terminal 1, domestic departures
- Terminal 1, US departures

- All Pearson lounges
Is it worth it?
The traveller in the video did the maths like this: an airport meal is about $25 and a drink is at least $10, so one meal and one drink already comes to about $35. If you would eat and drink anyway, a pass that costs less than that is easy to justify, and a pricier one still buys you the quiet, the seat and the extras.
It is usually worth it when:
- you arrive early, for example for an international flight
- you have a long wait, or your flight is delayed
- you want a proper meal and a seat that is not a gate chair
- you want a shower before or after a long trip
It is usually not worth it when you only have 60 to 90 minutes before boarding. By the time you find the lounge, eat and get back to your gate, you will not have used much of the two hours.
Who can get in
Plaza Premium lounges at Terminals 1 and 3 take walk-ins in any class. Priority Pass and some credit-card passes have worked at these lounges in the past, but access has changed, so check in the app or with the lounge before you rely on it. Some lounges are only for international or only for US-bound flights, so check which one matches your boarding pass.
Plan your ride around the lounge
If you are going to use the lounge, you want to arrive without stress:
- Leave early enough to enjoy it. For an international flight, plan to be at the airport about three hours ahead. Book your ride the night before if your flight is early.
- Book ahead. We need at least 1 hour's notice and suggest 2 hours or more. Your price is fixed when you book.
- Coming home? We watch your flight, so a late plane does not mean a missed pickup, and you get free waiting time after you land.
